Season's open

This picture is for sale over at 20x200, and hopefully it'll be on my doorstep soon. Don Hamerman seems to mainly do commercial work, but I really like some of these baseball images that he categorizes as 'fine art.' From reading his statement at 20x200, it sounds like Hamerman was interested in the history and provenance of the baseballs, as well as the way these objects have deteriorated and, in some cases, returned to the earth.  I particularly like the way the pictures examine the physicality, materiality, and impermanence of the subject. This physicality of matter also reflects, in a way, the nature of sport; what is sport if not a fleeting demonstration of tangible and concrete ability?
